Day 1
Barcelona to Andorra
-
-
Abadia de Montserrat
After pickup, we’ll drive to the breathtaking Montserrat Sanctuary, about an hour from Barcelona. I’ll share the rich history of this site, home to Our Lady of Montserrat (880) and the Montserrat Abbey (1025). We’ll have plenty of photo opportunities and sample the traditional cheese known as mató with honey. For the adventurous, there’s an option to hike to the Saint Michael Cross for stunning views. Daily mass is at 11 AM (optional), and on weekdays at 1 PM (12 PM on Sundays), the choir performs beautiful hymns. We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch featuring local vegetables and meats in the valley nearby.

Santuario de Meritxell
After lunch, we’ll head to Andorra to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady Meritxell, the Patron Saint of Andorra. If time permits, we’ll explore the sanctuary; otherwise, we may visit it the next day. The original sanctuary burned down in 1972, and a new one was constructed by architect Ricardo Bofill in 1976. The evening is yours to explore Andorra, known for its shopping and the relaxing balnearium Caldea. I can assist with recommendations for dinner and tips for enjoying Caldea.

Upon arriving in Lourdes, you’ll have free time to relax or participate in the daily procession, explore the basilica, or visit the grotto. I’ll help introduce you to Lourdes, especially if it’s your first visit. Remember, from spring to autumn, there’s a torchlight procession every night at 9 PM in the esplanade.
